We are currently researching how organisations can improve from within rather than be driven by external forces .We have called this, ‘Beyond Inspection’.

Our rationale is that the education and training industry continues to change at a very rapid pace and providers now have a myriad of external forces seemingly pulling them in different directions.

A few examples:

  • Providers have been contracted to meet the Learning and Skills Council (2005) new measures of success.
  • The Adult Learning Inspectorate (2005) has updated the inspection framework and has introduced a model of inspection over time instead of a snapshot approach. Plans are in hand for them to merge with OfSTED.
  • The Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (2005) are proceeding with the convergence of basic skill and key skills.
  • The Learning ands Skills Development Agency changes in 2006 to become the Quality Improvement Agency.

Meanwhile providers must continue to focus on the needs of the learner and the employer. They must ensure that the education and training provided is of the highest standard. They also need to thrive as organisations.
